• Zelve Open Air Museum sprawls across a vast area filled with underground cities, churches, dwellings, and other structures. One of the most remarkable features of Zelve is the dwellings and churches carved into the rock formations, showcasing the unique rock-cut architecture of Cappadocia. These areas combine with the extraordinary natural formations of Cappadocia to offer visitors an unforgettable experience. This church was built by early Christian communities in Cappadocia and used during the Crusader period, hence its name. The wall paintings and frescoes inside the church reflect the religious iconography of the period, offering visitors a unique collection of artworks. The structure of Çavuşin Crusader Church has been damaged over time due to natural erosion and environmental factors. However, it still remains a stunning edifice and serves as a significant stop for visitors keen on exploring the rich history and cultural heritage of Cappadocia.
• Paşabağ, located in the Avanos district of Nevşehir, is one of the captivating landscapes of Cappadocia. Renowned for its fairy chimneys, this area boasts intriguing rock formations formed over the years by volcanic ash and erosion. The stunning fairy chimneys of Paşabağ present visitors with a unique natural wonder. Additionally, hiking in the valleys surrounding the area is popular, offering visitors breathtaking views.
• The most beautiful point in Uchisar Castle, located 5 km from the center of Cappadocia, is the fairy chimneys. So much so that fairy chimneys, which can be seen from all over Cappadocia, are located here. Within Göreme Valley lies Güvercinlik Valley, named after the thousands of pigeon houses carved into the rocks of the valley. These pigeon houses were used for sheltering pigeons in ancient times, and pigeon droppings were collected as a valuable fertilizer for agriculture. Today, the impressive landscapes and natural beauty of Güvercinlik Valley continue to attract visitors. • Love Valley is located 15 min driving distance from center of Goreme Town. It is known as one of largest valleys of central Cappadocia.
• Avanos Pottery Culture Avanos, a town in central Turkey's Cappadocia region, is famous for its ancient pottery-making tradition. Located along the Kızılırmak River, which provides essential red clay, Avanos is a hub for skilled artisans crafting beautiful and functional pieces. The pottery techniques, passed down through generations, start with collecting red clay, which is shaped on a traditional foot-powered wheel. After shaping, pieces are dried and fired in kilns. Many are hand-painted with intricate designs reflecting the region's heritage.
• We will have lunch at Han Restaurant, Evronos Restaurant, Avanos Restaurant, or Uranus Restaurant. The underground city consists of multiple levels, including living quarters, kitchens, storage rooms, and ventilation shafts. It is estimated that Özkonak could accommodate around 60-70 families along with their livestock. The city also features a sophisticated system of tunnels and traps designed to thwart invaders and provide security for its inhabitants. While not as extensively excavated or restored as some of the more famous underground cities in Cappadocia, Özkonak offers visitors a unique glimpse into the region's history and the ingenious ways in which ancient civilizations adapted to their environment.
