- The ancient city of Myra was once the Lycian capital, 1.5 kilometers from Demre, a modern farming city. The main product of the region is tomatoes. And now the southern plains of Myra are filled with greenhouses. The city sits at the base of a steep cliff. A beautiful tomb was built into the rock and sits high above. At the top of the cliff is a ruined Byzantine castle. The Turkish flag flutters over the ruins.
- St Nicholas Church is a must-visit if you are in Demre as it has important historical meaning. I recommend buying a ticket with audio guide or booking a tour. The church itself is quite small and parts of the church were closed for renovations.
