- Ephesus is the best preserved classical city in the Mediterranean and perhaps the best place in the world to feel what life was like in Roman times. - The House of the Virgin Mary is located just beyond Ephesus. According to Christian tradition, Mary was taken there by the Apostle John after the Resurrection of Christ and lived her last days in this house. A small chapel dedicated to Saint Mary was discovered when the ruins of the house were found. The Vatican has recognized the place as the last resting place of the Virgin.
