ITINERARY
- Sultanahmet square used to be a hippodrome in the Eastern Roman period. For public entertainment, they were arranging chariot races and to split the track there brought monuments from all over the world such as the Egyptian obelisk, and serpent column. Today many important monuments are located around the square.
- The fountain is a gift from German Keiser Willheim the second to the Ottoman Sultan Abdulhamit the second and was placed at Sultanahmet square on the birthday of the Sultan. It represents the forming alliance between Ottomans and Germany. It has a gothic style of architecture and symbols of Keiser and Sultan were engraved in the inner dome.
- The first imperial palace of the Ottoman Empire was built after the conquest of Constantinople in 1478 and had been home to 24 generations of the Sultans for 400 years. It was the main palace of the empire and also it was the first imperial palace built in Istanbul
