ITINERARY
- Your driver will pick you up from your location and then drive toward the site, starting from Amman, the Dead Sea, or the airport. Our English-speaking driver will take you along the Desert Highway to Petra. Depending on road conditions, the drive will last a minimum of three hours, including one stop on the way.
- Shobak Castle, also known as Montreal, is a medieval fortress in Shoubak, Jordan. The Crusaders built it in 1115 and it is one of the best-preserved Crusader castles in the region. The castle is perched on a hilltop overlooking the Wadi Musa valley and the ancient city of Petra. It was built to protect the Crusader kingdom from Muslim invaders and served as an essential trade route between Egypt and Syria. Explore the ruins of the castle, including the keep, the towers, and the bailey. Visit the castle's two churches, one of which has been reconstructed. Enjoy the panoramic views of the Wadi Musa Valley and the surrounding mountains. Take a hike to the top of the hill for even more stunning views.
- Once you arrive at the visitor center in Petra, your driver will assist with purchasing your tickets and a local guide (optional) if you are interested in more information about the area's architecture and history.
- Capture the details of the fascinating history of the Nabataeans and their city, which was completely carved in stone over 2000 years ago, to dominate the trade routes of ancient Arabia. Visit the main sites in the area, its towns, damns, and water channels. This stunning creation begins with a walk through Al-Siq, a long, narrow, and deep pathway of breathtaking natural beauty that acts as the main entrance to the ancient Nabataean city of Petra. Your eye first sees the Treasury, “Al-Khazneh.” The treasury is one of the most elegant remains of antiquity, entirely carved deep into the rocks of one side of the mountain and concealed in a high-walled ellipse of a valley. It is almost 40 meters high and intricately decorated with Corinthian capitals, friezes, and figures. You will also see other monuments such as the Altar of Sacrifice, the Street of Facades, the Royal Tombs, and the Roman Theater.
- Next, head to Wadi Rum, the filming location of blockbuster movies such as Lawrence of Arabia and The Martian. Allow yourself to be transported into this otherworldly landscape. Embark on an adventurous 4x4 safari ride through the desert and visit several sites, including the Nabataean Temple.
- Later, stop at a picturesque Bedouin for a refreshing cup of Arabic tea or coffee and the opportunity to mingle with the locals. Finally, gaze upon a breathtaking sunset across the silky desert plains before beginning the return journey to Amman, the Dead Sea, or the Airport.
