ITINERARY
- Early morning departure from Algiers. Arrival 2 hours later in Cherchell. Visit of the ancient city on the Mediterranean coast called Yol then Caesarea of Mauretania, it was one of the most important cities on the coast of North Africa and capital of Caesarean Mauretania. Lunch of grilled fish (local specialty).
- Tipasa presents a separate ruin: not everything has been cleared, and a large part of the city, explored by Stéphane Gsell in 1891, is still under sediment. In its current state, the remains form two large collections. The first is located outside the walls, at the current entrance to the city, on the right side of the road coming from Algiers, corresponding to a large necropolis and the Sainte-Salsa cathedral. The second is the archaeological park, located at the western exit of the modern city, which includes most of the monuments unearthed.
- The Royal Mausoleum of Mauritania, nicknamed Christian Tombs (after a translation error) and Kabr Al Lumiya (Arabic for "Roman Tombs"), is a monument located in Sidi Rached, Wilaya, Tipaza, Algeria. The mausoleum is a stone tomb with a diameter of 60.9 m, a height of 32.4 m and an area of about 80,000 m3. There are 60 decorated columns around the perimeter, topped with Ionic capitals, supporting a cornice. Inscribed on the World Heritage List in 1982 under criteria (iii) and (iv) as "Tipaza", the Royal Mausoleum of Mauritania is inscribed on the Tentative List of UNESCO World Heritage Sites as " Royal Mausoleum” since 2002. - “Islamic funerary monuments” 1 for criteria (ii), (iii) and (iv).
